Micro SD cards are a form of memory card used extensively in various forms of electronic devices like digital cameras, laptops, palmtops, mobile phones etc...It is impossible to imagine the working of various electronic devices today without the use of micro SD cards in them. Micro SD cards were initially conceptualized to be used as a storage element in mobile phones with multimedia functionalities, but later was proved to be useful in various other electronic devices.

Micro SD cards are simple flash memory cards that are detachable. Presently they are the smallest memory cards in terms of dimensions that are available in the commercial market. The size is 15*11*1 mm which is equivalent to the size of the finger nail of a human being thus making it a preferable choice to buy micro SD cards. Micro SD cards can also be used in electronic devices that were designed to be used only with memory cards such as mini SD, USB cards, and memory stick Duo etc...This can be accomplished by fitting the micro SD cards into compartments known as adapters. The storage capacity of micro SD cards can range from a modest 128 MB to an astounding 8 GB!

Upon plugging these cards with the computer, the operating system of the computer loads two drivers, SD secure storage digital class and storage mini port. These drivers in turn call functions local to the secure digital library which refers to the content of the micro SD card.

Micro SD card is a format for removable flash memory cards. It is the smallest memory card available in the market. The Micro SD cards are commonly used in cellular phones, as well as in some newer handheld GPS devices, portable media players, and digital audio players, expandable USB flash memory drives, Nintendo DS flashcards, and digital cameras. At present Micro SD cards are available in different capacities from 64 MB to 16 GB. It is expect to have 32 GB cards availability in the market by 2010.

There are a couple of factors that I generally consider when buying a memory card for my phone or for camera. Always consider buying a memory card with higher capacity, so that you can store more. Also, confirm the type of card for your device before purchasing it.
